4 Rare caffiene facts you never knew

No matter how much we deny it, we need caffeine to stay alert. Caffeine is the chemical that keeps us awake and gets us through the day. It is a mood-altering drug and most people consume caffeine either while sipping their coffee pods, tea, green tea, matcha tea, sodas, diet energy drink, & even their coffee cake.

We all consume caffeine in some form, and studies show it has positive effects on our bodies. It can make us feel happier while providing other health benefits. On the other hand, the negative effect of the same is seen on people, like heart palpitation, headache, insomnia, and more.

It made us want to know more about caffeine, and we wore our detective hats. We found some interesting facts which we are sharing with you.

Fact 1: Caffeine leaves your body after many hours

Within 45 minutes of drinking coffee, tea, and soda, your body absorbs the caffeine. However, leaving your body takes hours. The body takes a lot of time to break down caffeine and clear from our systems.

It takes around 4 hours for half of the caffeine to leave our body. The full amount may take up to eight or sometimes twelve hours. The time can also vary according to people and certain habits they have. For instance, women on birth control pills take more time to eliminate coffee than women who are not on pills. That is why your doctors always suggest you never drink coffee late at night, as it can interfere with your sleep routine.

Fact 2: It is possible to die from an overdose of caffeine

Although this is rare, it may happen. But for this to happen, you will need to drink around 30-50 cups of coffee in a day. Thankfully, no one drinks this much coffee. However, there have been reports of people dying due to consuming 100% caffeine powder to lose weight. Such powders are pure caffeine and have high doses. It can lead to respiratory collapse and death.

Fact 3: Caffeine withdrawal happens and is real

Many recent studies show the effect of caffeine withdrawal in people terming it as a real mental condition. People who cut back on caffeine dramatically or stop drinking it may feel side effects.

These include: headache, depressed mood, fatigue, irritable mood, and these come after 24 hours of leaving or cutting caffeine.  For some people, these side effects are too much interfering with their daily routine. It is best to cut back or leave coffee gradually over a week.

Fact 4: Caffeine is found in weird things

Now, to get a caffeine fix, you do not always have to drink coffee or tea. There are caffeine-infused water, peanut butter, gum, and more. Even soaps, shampoos, and candles have caffeine.

Some headache medicines to have it for relieving pain.

Caffeine in any form, especially coffee, doesn't lead to addiction. Yes, people depend on it, but it doesn't cause any psychologically unacceptable behavior. Thus, keep enjoying your caffeine-rich coffee or tea( just within the limit).

Do not look at your phone until a bit later after doing something productive or soulful for yourself.

2. Stretch

One of the first things you can do after getting out of bed is to stretch. Do not run towards the kitchen to start making breakfast or do chores. First, do some simple stretches right out of the bed. You have been sleeping for a few hours, making your body stiff. Thus, you need to stretch it out to ensure that the blood circulation is perfect.

You do not have to get into a rigorous workout right after waking up. A few minutes of bed stretches or simple ones are perfect for kickstarting your morning routine.

3. Drink water

Drink some warm water with a bit of lemon or lime or any way you like. Your body is thirsty after a long sleep and needs water to start the body functioning.

Warm water in any capacity helps to flush the toxins out and start the metabolism process.

4. Go for a walk or exercise

When you have an 8 am class in the morning, it can be challenging to get in a walk or exercise. But you can, it doesn't have to be an hour long. Go for a five-minute walk around your apartment or do a 5-minute dance routine or yoga. Anything that makes you physically active and releases endorphins in the body. It will help reduce the stress and anxiety that all college-goers feel.

5. Never skip breakfast

Skipping breakfast is one of the worst things you can do. College can be long, tedious, and hectic. Most of us end up eating junk, which doesn’t do any favors to your body. At least, your morning meal should be healthy and full. So, along with your mug of hot pods flavor coffee, eat a healthy and hearty breakfast. There are quick healthy breakfast ideas that you can try to make your morning a bit chilled.

Lastly, give yourself a pep-talk if the day is challenging. Do not give up and it will turn out to be okay.

All questions regarding expiry of coffee pods answered

Coffee pods are like a breath of fresh air for coffee enthusiasts. It is one of the quickest ways to make espresso, iced coffee, latte, or even frappuccino. Individually packed, they have a powerful aroma and taste. It lasts until you open them or they expire, which is there in the packaging.

Yet, the question regarding its expiry and storage makes coffee lovers hesitate to try the pods. If you are one of those people, it is time to do away with any hesitation as we are answering all questions you may have about coffee pods expiry and storage.

Let’s begin

Can coffee pods expire?

Yes! Like any edible item, coffee pods too expire. The expiration date is available on the individual pod and the outer package as well for a few brands. If you do not have the wrapper to know the expiry date, you can ideally use it up to one year from the date of manufacturing. Also, the packing and sealing of pods ensure no exposure to moisture, oxygen, or sun. Thus, making the pod coffee safer to drinks for years.

Unless your coffee pod seal is broken or compromised, it is safe. If not, it is best not to drink it. Few coffee pods have milk in them, and as the manufacturer treats them with ultra-heat treatment, it is safe to drink for a long time.

Is drinking coffee pods harmful after their expiry date?

It depends on tons of factors including its packaging and sealing. If they are intact, drinking them will not pose any threat, and they will taste fresh too. Experts suggest that you can drink pods coffee up to one year after its expiration date. Though, do try to finish it before the expiry date.

Drinking an expired pod coffee will not make you sick. Though, it may taste different.

What is the best way to store coffee pods?

Coffee pods are affected by moisture, heat, puncture, and oxygen.

  • When it comes to moisture, make sure you store coffee pods away from moisture. It will impact its texture and will lead to the growth of mould on the pod’s surface.

  • When there is oxygen in your coffee pod, it can oxidize the grounds. It increases acidity and leads to sour-tasting coffee. Before you use pods, make sure to check rips in the packet.

  • The heat from the sun can harm your coffee pods. It alters its chemistry and makes it sweeter, which makes the grounds sticky and changes its smoothness.

  • Puncture is a tear or breakage in the pods which can expose it to heat, moisture, and oxygen.

To ensure that the pods are not affected by all this, you have to store them properly. Here are a few ways to do the same:

  • Hanging storage

  • Glass or mason jar

  • A drawer under the machine

  • Freezing the pods can also store them properly

  • Spice rack

It is essential to store the coffee pods in the right manner if you want the taste and aroma stay fresh.

3 Simple methods of brewing pods coffee at home!

Coffee pods present a unique and convenient way to drink coffee. It is a dream come true for every coffee-lover as it is quick and saves your time standing in Starbucks line every morning for your morning energy kick. Just because using coffee pods is convenient does not mean that making a perfect cup of coffee is. Though the process is simple, still simple things like boiling water to the correct temperature is necessary.

In this blog, we will learn about various methods of brewing coffee pods. These methods are helpful even if you do not have a single-serve coffee machine. So, do keep reading.

Brewing coffee using pods machine

If you have a Nespresso machine and Nespresso compatible pod (or any pod and machine which are compatible with each other), follow these steps:

  • Warm up the machine and let it drain to ensure every dirt comes out. If you don’t, the coffee will not taste its best.

  • Now, use cold and filtered water to fill up the machine. Measure the water before putting it.

  • Remove the coffee from its package

  • Pop the pod into the machine without forcing it to do so. You might have to press a button to access it, or you may not have to. Be sure to read the manual of the machine thoroughly.

  • Change the settings on the machine to your preference. Most pod coffee making appliances have three options-medium, light, and strong. Select the one according to your taste.

Brewing coffee using pod machine not compatible with your pods

If you do not have a pod that is compatible with your machine, follow these steps:

  • Have a holster that is compatible with the pod for this. Pop your coffee pod in the holster and put it in the machine. Again, never force the pod to fit into the machine.

  • Now place the mug under the coffee dispensing area and choose from the three options- light, medium, or strong.

Brewing coffee without a machine

If you do not have a pod machine but want to try pod coffee, you can with these steps.

  • First, open your pods coffee completely to get ground beans. You can do this with your hands or any sharp gadget like a pair of scissors.

  • Dispense the coffee into a mug of your choice. Use every last coffee if you want a delicious cup of coffee. If you reduce it, the coffee will not be as strong as individual pods that have enough coffee for one cup only.

  • Put the pod on top of the glass (you would need a narrow glass for brewing this)

  • Pour boiling water on it and let it brew for a few minutes.

4 Tips that will unquestionably make your morning coffee taste better

Everyone loves a nice hot cup of coffee early in the morning to kick start their day. Most coffee lovers follow the same steps to brew their coffee. They love that taste, and it is a habit that they cannot let go of. But maybe you should try to change your morning coffee recipe. Why? Because there are better ways to make coffee now that will make it sustainable and delicious as well.

Remember that there is no best way to brew coffee. Innovations keep coming in, and you should try them to make your coffee decadent and its brewing process effortless.

Here are four tips that will improve your morning coffee

Tip 1: Be smart and sustainable with your coffee

We all want to be environmentally conscious and responsible with our coffee drinking habits. Fortunately, it is now possible. Here are few ways to make your coffee drinking habits green:

  • Use biodegradable coffee pods instead of regular coffee pods. They are better for the environment, and they taste the same.

  • It is necessary to keep the coffee machine’s switch on. Though it wastes electricity, warming up the coffee machine in the morning is a long process. To be sustainable here, you can get a smart wall plug that has Wi-Fi in it. It turns on the machine for you on time to keep it warm. It has other benefits too.

  • Buy coffee in bulk. It saves packaging waste

  • Make sure you buy only organic coffee.

Tip 2: Make sure you use better water

If you want a perfect cup of coffee, using the right water is necessary. Yes, there is a thing as right water when it comes to coffee. Do not use the water which you will not prefer for drinking for coffee, especially for espresso.

  • Never use tap water for coffee, as it will taste like you are drinking mud

  • Use filtered or bottled water

  • Also, use cold water for brewing, no matter the method you are using to make coffee. That way, the machine will heat the water at the correct temperature.

Tip 3: Heating your cup can do wonders

Heating your cup can unquestionably make your coffee taste delicious. It balances the flavor and enhances it as well. When you pour your espresso in a cold cup, it affects its sweetness and body. That’s why heating the cup is better. Here are two ways to do this:

  • Put the mug over your coffee-brewing machine (if possible) to heat it up

  • Second, you can also pour boiling water into your cup. Make sure you full it only half and not up to the brink. It doesn’t overheat the rim, so you can enjoy your hot coffee without burning yourself.

Tip 4: Grind coffee grounds at home when needed

Fresh produce is always the best. Right? So, rather than buying pre-grind coffee, buy whole beans and grind them at home and only as much you need. It will enhance the taste and will give you a fresh taste of the coffee.

Feeling blue? Try these hacks for uplifting your mood

There are times when you feel blue, sad, lonely, and anxious. Most of the time, you know the reason, and you can work it out. But there are times when these emotions you feel are so sudden, and you are unable to pinpoint the reason/s making you feel this way.

In such a situation, we want to curl up on the bed and cry our hearts out. It is one way to feel better as when we cry we feel light and better. But there are other things also that you can do, which will help you feel better. Want to know what? Let’s check them out.

1. Drink coffee

If you are a coffee-drinker, the smell of coffee is one thing that can calm your mind. So, when you are down and don’t know what ails you, brew up your favorite coffee. One cup of this will make you feel better.

Don’t want to go to lots of trouble, no worries! Just buy coffee pods. Pod flavors come in varieties and pour some hot water on it, and your delicious cup of coffee is ready.

P.S. If you are a tea drinker, make tea, and you will feel better.

2. Bake a cake and eat it whole

Some days it is okay to indulge, especially when you are sad or feeling lonely. Bake a cake, use wheat or oats flour to make it healthier, and use jaggery powder instead of sugar. Bake it with coffee or chocolate or anything that you love, and eat it whole. You don’t have to share it with anyone. Also, a scoop of ice-cream on top of it will make you feel a lot better.

3. Take some me-time

If you are an emotional eater, it is best to stay away from food when you are sad or down. It can prompt you to eat a lot. But no worries, we have a solution for you too. Just find some nice and peaceful corner and sit there. Close your eyes, breathe in the fresh air, and sort your thoughts.

Not only is this peaceful and calming, but it will give you some time to figure out what is making you feel this way.

4. Talk it out

Sometimes talking to a family or friend can help you feel better. You don’t have to figure out the reason for your negative thoughts; you only need to share them with someone. The people closest to you have the power to make you feel better, and help you make sense of things.

Not want to talk to anyone? No problem, journalize your thoughts. Also, it is better to write in a diary every night so that you have somewhere to rant or express gratitude. You don’t keep your emotions inside this way, which is healthy.

5. Netflix and chill

It is my go-to option for whenever I feel down. I just put on my favorite movie or show and drink coffee and just let go of any negative emotions that I feel.

These are some of my favorite ways to chill and feel better. What are yours? Tell us in the comments below.

Five best warm drinks for rainy season

The season of rain is here. This season is beautiful, the rain drops, wind, cold air, and warm drinks are what makes this season one of my favorites. If you live in a region where it rains heavily and it becomes a bit cold, you and your body would crave something warm. No matter how much iced tea or coffee we like, in such a season, drinking warm beverages is best. It helps us stay cozy and feel warm, while ensuring we don’t catch a cold.

Also, the feeling that you get when you are watching the rain drops while sipping a hot cocoa or coffee is the best. So, to honor this weather, here are five best warm drinks that will compliment the rain in the best way.

Let’s check them out.

1. Cinnamon coffee

So, whether you like black coffee or a coffee with milk and cream, adding a pinch of cinnamon in it will enhance its flavour ten times. Also, it has health benefits, like it is anti-inflammatory, controls sugar level in the blood, and is high in antioxidants. So, when you are brewing your coffee (black or otherwise), add a pinch of cinnamon, or its stick, and let it brew for a while. If you can, don't add sugar so that you have a healthy and warm drink.

To make it more flavoursome, you can choose from tons of Nespresso pods flavour online. They come in hazelnut, vanilla, and more. Also, pod coffee brewing is simple, hassle-free, and quick.

2. Ginger tea

Another healthy and warm drink is ginger tea. The best way to make it is to boil water with ginger roots (cut or crushed) and when it boils, let the tea bag, or leaves seep in it for 10 minutes. After that, pour it in a cup, if the taste is strong for you, you can add a bit of lemon or honey in it.

If you cannot drink black coffee, add two tablespoons of frothed milk in it, it will taste amazing. But do try to avoid sugar.

3. Hot cocoa

Another healthy warm drink which is also indulgent is hot chocolate. When you get it right, it is a great drink full of nutrients as cocoa is rich in antioxidants promoting immunity in the body. It also has anti-inflammatory properties.

Make sure that you buy a hot cocoa brand which doesn’t have added sugar. There are tons of recipes available on the internet for making hot cocoa. My favourite is to add 2 tbsp of cocoa in one cup of milk (skim or low-fat), add some dark chocolate pieces, and stir it well. When it becomes a bit thick, pour it in a cup. You can add whipped cream to it as well.

4. Red wine

So, it is not a warm drink, but red-wine is healthy and can keep you warm on cold rainy nights. Just drink it in limit so that you don’t get drunk on it.

5. Almond spiced milk

Almond milk is low in calories and is healthy as well. Also, making it at home is easy. Just soak some almonds overnight or for a few hours. Peel the outer covering and then grind it with water. It will turn milky, sieve the milk, and discard the excess pulp. Now, boil it with some spices like vanilla or cinnamon or nutmeg and drink it.

Which one of these warm drinks will you be trying this rainy season?
