Moving into a new house? 7 essential things to do after

Is your new home ready to shift? It is a dream come true moment for everyone to move into their dream house. When you move, thinking that packing & unpacking are the only two important jobs, then you are wrong. There are other things to consider too and that before you throw a housewarming party for your friends & family.

You must want to throw a house-warming party immediately with all house warming wishes in Hindi pouring into your inbox. But wait a little bit and first finish off some other essential things. When these things are out of the way, your griha pravesh puja & housewarming lunch/dinner would be happier.

Here are 7 essential things to do after moving into a new house

1. Take a look around your new house

The first thing you should do after moving & before unpacking is to look at your empty house. Check every room and every space to ensure that everything is according to the contract. If you find any issues or see anything that concerns you, and is under the contract, call the realtor. Or the building owner where you bought the apartment. They will help you figure out the issues.

If you see a few problems that aren’t covered in the contract, you will have to fix them yourself.

2. Do not go for renovations immediately

When we buy a ready-made house, we want to tear some walls down for renovations. However, calm yourself and don’t go for renovation immediately. Try living there for at least six months and then decide. Maybe you will have a different vision than the one you wanted to go with first.

Once you start living somewhere, you know better what is working out for you and what isn’t.

3. Childproof immediately

If you have a griha pravesh puja right after moving in, do one important thing. Child-proof the house before you start accepting wishes for griha pravesh from everyone. If you have kids or pets, you do not want them to get tangled in dangerous staff, especially if you have to set up for a party.

Do quick things, like keeping all equipment & tools away. Ensuring that window & door locks work. Keeping anything dangerous that kids can eat far away from their reach.

4. Check the attic

If your house comes with an attic or crawl space or basement, check them. They may have tons of insects or bugs. It is better to get familiar with them and figure out a plan to knock them down. Before you settle down, you may need pest control.

5. Set up the kitchen

Set up your kitchen as soon as you move to the new house. Also, the bathroom! Two essential places that you will make use of immediately. Yes, you can get take-out. But you will need some utensils, or you may need to cook something for the kids. Thus, it is best to start setting up a kitchen. You can organize it as per preference later.

6. Clean

Yes, no one wants to clean right after moving in. However, you have to. That is the best way to clean any dirt that the construction or moving people may have left. Hiring a professional is always an option if you do not wish to do it.

Happy moving!
