7 comfort foods/drinks for when you are feeling down

Being sad or feeling down is part & parcel of our life. Every one of us feels that way sometimes, especially with the busy lifestyle that we all lead. When we feel sad, we tend to either overeat as it can make us feel better in the moment. However, after the phase passes, we will feel guilty about it. So, do we not eat at all? No, that is not healthy as well.



The best thing you can do is eat in moderation and eat items that will give you comfort. There are few foods/drinks that can help ease sadness or stress as they promote happy hormones in our bodies. In this blog, we are listing them, and you should try them the next time you are feeling blue.

1.      Coffee

Coffee is a comforting beverage, and every coffee lover would agree with this. When feeling sad or down, a nice cup of coffee can make you feel exceptionally better. Caffeine, the main ingredient of coffee stimulates the brain, alerts us, and can reduce depressing thoughts in our brain.

Also, for coffee lovers, the aroma of coffee is enough to make them feel happy. Try disposable coffee pods to whip up a quick coffee at home without compromising on the taste.

 

2.      Dark chocolate

Dark chocolate is proven to improve mood and also lowers the risk of cardiovascular disease. So, the next time you are feeling extremely down, go eat a bar of dark chocolate. Once in a while, eating chocolate will not increase your weight or make you sick.

Also, you can eat two or three pieces if eating the whole thing will make you feel bad later.

 

3.      Macaroni & cheese

Macaroni & cheese is a classic dish. It is not heavy on the healthier side, but it is comforting and delicious. Tons of people agree that a plate of macaroni & cheese comforts them and helps them feel better when they are in a sad phase.

 

4.      Fish

Fish is brain food and rich in Omega 3, which helps ease depression & sadness. Try a salmon with some vegetables & rice. Even if you are not in the mood to eat, you cannot resist this.

 

5.      Red wine

If you are not addicted to drinking and are of legal age, red wine can help you. It is a great mood booster. Imagine watching a movie while sipping red wine. You will automatically feel better.

 

6.      Cake

Try baking a cake and eating it. Baking is therapeutic, and it will undoubtedly take your mind off your problems for a while. Eat the cake and feel better.

 

7.      Kale salad

Order a kale salad or make one. Fill the bowl with kale and other vegetables & dressing. It will boost your mood like nothing else.

 

Good food can always make you feel better. Also, try to find a soul to share your burden with. That helps or you listen to music and when you are in a calm state, determine the best way to move forward.
