The best way to put milk in your coffee: A short guide

How do you take your coffee? Is it plain black or espresso brewed using Nespresso compatible pods? Or do you add a bit of milk to it? If you prefer milk in coffee, you are not alone. A majority of coffee-lovers like to add a bit or more dairy or non-dairy milk in their coffee.

1.  Get the milk temperature right

It is essential to get the milk temperature correct. Otherwise, you will have a poorly-tasting coffee. There are a few things to keep in mind when it comes to milk temperature:

Never put cold milk into hot coffee. If you do that, the coffee will lose its entire flavor.

Warm milk is also not better. You need to heat the milk for at least 60 seconds in the microwave or till it reaches 60- or 70-degree Celsius, especially for a latte.

 

2.  Best alternatives to dairy milk

Dairy milk tastes heavenly with coffee. When you put it in latte or cappuccinos, the foam and frothiness you get are unmatchable. However, dairy milk is high in calories, and it can cause health issues in few people. Others don’t prefer it out of choice. If you are someone who is looking to switch to vegan milk, you may have the question as to which non-dairy milk is perfect for coffee? Here are your options:

Almond milk: It is the most popular vegan milk option that people use in their coffee. It can taste incredible in your coffee, but it does leave a bitter aftertaste. Also, getting foam with almond milk is a bit difficult. It sometimes separates, and you have a watery coffee at your end.

Also, never put cold almond milk in your hot coffee, as it will curdle. Heat it as the instructions say.

Oat milk: It is the perfect alternative to dairy milk. It is rich in fiber, is creamy, and thus you can froth it just as well as full-fat milk. If you want to drink a vegan coffee with lots of foam, oat milk is something you need to try.

Soy milk: Most cafes will use soy milk in their vegan coffee. It doesn’t leave any after-taste and is sustainable as well.

3.  Texture- making milk froth for latte or cappuccino

No one likes coffee with milk if the milk is not frothy or foamy. It is all about getting enough air bubbles in the milk, not more or less, just enough to get the consistency right. To do this:

Use a frother: If you have a frother or a handy-dandy foamer, you can do this right.

Use a jar: Just place your steamed milk in the jar, and shake it well for thirty seconds.
