Have questions about debt collection? We have answers

No one likes to be in debt, but sometimes it becomes hard to pay the amount due to
circumstances. When a person misses a few payments, the lender can hire a debt collection
agency or sell your debts to a collector. They have various ways through, which they contact
a person, and collect the pending amount.
Don’t worry, they don’t harass the debtor, but work within the law to get the money the debtor
owes to the creditor back. But debt collectors have a reputation of being scary, and when they
call a debtor, they get overwhelmed and nervous. It is all because people don’t have much knowledge about the debt collection agency, and how it works. They have many questions,
and, in this blog, we will try to answer some of them.
Here are some questions that most people have about debt collectors, and the answers
to them.
Question 1: Can a debt recovery agent contact you in the office?
A debt collection agency like Cedar financial can call you in your office. They are legally allowed to.
But you have the legal right to ask them not to call you at work if you don’t prefer to. You can write
them a letter or tell them on call that your employers don’t appreciate you calling at work. Once you
make the request, they have no right to contact you in your office. If they do call you, it only has to
be about telling you that there is a lawsuit against you. You can visit us for debt collection queries.
Question 2: What methods they use to contact you?
They initially write to you or call you at home of office or post you. If neither of these methods works,
they can use other methods to contact you. If the debtor is untraceable, they have the option to
use a computer system that has various databases to track down the debtor.
Question 3: Can a collector call you at any time or is there a specific time?
A debt collector can call you only between 8:00 am to 9:00 pm. They cannot call you before or
after this. They can only call you after or before this time if you permit them too.
Moreover, if you are in the office at this time, the collector can call you there, but as we mentioned
above, you can ask them not to.
Question 4: Can a collector call your neighbors or family?
A debt collector can call your family, friends, or even your neighbor only to trace you or find out
how to contact you. But they cannot tell them the reason for contacting you or call them again.
They can only ask for your contact or address/
Question 5: Is there someone who a collector can inform about the debt?
Yes, a collector can tell about the debt to the delinquent’s spouse or an attorney and no one else.
Question 6: Do a debt collector follows any rules?
Yes, every country and state has some rules that guide the collector and ensures that no debtor
is abused or harassed by the debtor.
